Florida statutes require that vehicles being registered and/or titled in the state for the first time must have a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) verification completed. Additionally, in some circumstances that involve a theft recovery or missing VIN, the VIN verification must be completed by a Law Enforcement Officer. Budget cuts to Police Department Auto Theft Units and DMV Regional offices have made obtaining a VIN verification more difficult and time consuming. In an effort to fill this void, the Auto Theft Task Force, Inc. provides services to assist dealers, insurance companies, lien holders, auctions, and victims in obtaining the required VIN verification to confirm the legitimate vehicle identification number of a motor vehicle. Additionally, the Auto Theft Task Force, Inc. can provide assistance in identifying or confirming an active lien, title fraud, or any past damage condition or salvage designation.
The following services are available:
- VIN Verification Inspection, Salvage or Rebuilt Vehicle Inspection, Title History Request Lien History Request
- VIN Inspection Cost: $100.00 for the first vehicle and $75.00 for each additional vehicle. This service includes notarized VIN verification forms and digital photos. Mileage or travel cost may also be required.
- Salvage or Rebuilt Inspection Cost: $150.00 for first vehicle and $125.00 for each additional vehicle. This service includes inspection form, VIN verification form, and digital photos.
- Title History Research Cost $75.00 for each. This service may include obtaining title history records from DHSMV, a NMVTIS history report, and other supporting documents.
